School as Community Centre
The SaCC program uses a community development approach to developing opportunities and programs for families with children in the birth to eight years age range and values the opportunity to partner with local agencies and organisations.
The project recognises the importance of:
- The early years of a child’s development.
- The role of parents as their child’s first teachers.
- Connecting families with young children to their local school and community.
The School as Community Centre Project (SaCC) is funded by Families NSW a multi -agency government initiative.
The SaCC Project Principles
The project aims to support the community by:
- Recognising and building on community strengths, assets and skills.
- Prevention and early intervention.
- Valuing and reflecting cultural diversity.
- Development of mutually respectful and supportive relationships involving agencies and community members.
- Working in partnership and sharing resources.
- Participating in the development of networks that promote collaborative planning and accessible services.
The SaCC project is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to social justice and improving prevention and early intervention support for families with young children. The Department of Education is the lead agency responsible for the administration of the project.
The centre offers a variety of playgroups, a baby health clinic, community arts group, conversational English for our newly arrived families, Triple P parenting courses, cooking courses, meditation and outreach music.
There are more sessions, including the involvement in numerous other services and opportunities for parents and their young children to connect with education, health and support.
We are well known throughout the Dubbo community as a place where everyone is welcome and families can be confident to find whatever help they may need.
